This morning we enjoyed a tour of Ayashimi, a beautiful little river town at the edge of a bamboo forest.
After a hike through sun-dappled trunks, we split up to explore.
We discovered oranges that ripen in winter
and a cafe owned by owls and cats.
After a magical morning, we met today’s guide, Yumi-San, for our trip to Todai Temple and Nara Park, land of the large, large Buddha and home to wild, hungry deer. Students had an outstanding time, and all agreed that the massive Buddha and the chance to see if they could slip through the hole in the pillar that indicates your worthiness for Paradise were highlights of the trip so far.
A little shopping, another precisely presented, delicious, interesting meal, and the travelers returned to prepare to leave Kyoto for Hakone and a traditional Japanese inn. What adventures await them? Tune in tomorrow.
